About Moab Solutions

History: In 1994, David Morgan began taking his longtime partner Sara Melnicoff on walks along the Animas River in Durango, Colorado, to pick up trash and recyclables. It was here that Sara developed the excitement that comes from leaving the natural world more pristine than you found it. Ten years later, after months of cleaning up trash on the Parkway in Moab, Sara organized friends to do cleanups together, and Moab Solutions was born. Four years later, while cleaning up along the Parkway, Sara literally tripped over a campsite, motivating her to learn more about chronic homelessness, and to start directing the homeless to public services. She even started teaching the homeless to recycle. Sara's ability to combine homeless advocacy with environmental action is unique among non-profit organizations, and embodies the philosophy that we are part of nature, and must take care of the land and of each other.
