Testimonials about Moab Solutions
“Moab Solutions is just that: providing solutions to some of Moab’s biggest challenges like taking care of the homeless and keeping recycling real. Moab Solutions simply makes Grand County a better place to live."
--Dave Erley, Mayor, Town of Castle Valley
“A few of the things that I have learned to count on in helping people with special financial and emotional needs is Sara Melnicoff, the Salvation Army she leads and Moab Solutions, the organization she runs. The help they have been to people in Moab is absolutely amazing. The churches in our town are so grateful for their partnership. The integrity and fidelity to the mission is so solid. I know that I will be a lifetime supporter of their work".
--The Reverend Keith VanArsdol, Pastor, Community Church of Moab
"I was homeless and lived in a tent near the creek in Moab for several years. Moab Solutions helped me survive a bitter cold winter by getting me and other homeless men into temporary shelter and then a trailer. They provided job training so we could help pay our own expenses. They helped me get my ID and Social Security card. When I began receiving retirement benefits they helped me get into my own apartment. When I decided to move back to my home state to be with family, they provided transportation to the airport. Sara Melnicoff is my earth angel. I owe my life to her and to Moab Solutions."
“It was my second trip to [Jeep Safari on Potato Salad Hill in] Moab, and I read that Sara was up there cleaning every morning. The following year I said we would organize a cleanup project. I’ve been working with her ever since.”
--Jeff Knoll, Member, Off-Road Business Association (ORBA)
"Sara has a special talent for reaching out to those who might not traditionally be involved in recycling and sustainability efforts, and creating the perfect event or activity to draw them in, such as working with "Jeepers" on Potato Salad Hill, helping Relay for Life incorporate recycling into their fundraisers, and working with The Times-Independent to profile the "greening" of a non-recycler for the first time. I look forward to seeing the wonderful community projects that Moab Solutions tackles next."
--Abby Scott, former Program Director, Canyonlands Community Recycling
"We are really grateful for the cooperation and motivation we get from Moab Solutions. Our joint projects have been very successful over the years. Two projects really stand out. For many years, they spearheaded the Wednesday Morning Recycle Club that supports our Community Recycle Center. They also produced ‘Moab’s Green Guide’ which serves as the ‘how-to’ on recycling for our community. With their focus on ‘reducing over recycling, and recycling over wasting’, they're an invaluable partner for us."
--Pam Hackley, Administrative Control Board member,
Solid Waste Special Service District #1 for Grand County, Utah
"When my husband and I retired to Moab in 1996, we began cleaning up litter and recyclables along the roadways and walkways of the area. When the Solutions group was formed I thought it would be great to be involved with an organization that educate[s] people (especially children) ...in becoming a 'Solution' to the problem!"
--Carol Hoggard, Founding Board Member, Moab Solutions
"After Sara started Solutions, I marveled at her vision and tenacity. ...I have had a great time on every cleanup I have attended. I invite those who still haven’t participated in a cleanup to join the group one of these days. You’ll be glad you did!"
