When we respect the earth in its totality, when we rethink how we do things, when we practice the three R's - reduce, reuse, recycle, - we instantly have a beneficial effect on the world.
Here is the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) definitions for those three R's.
R E D U C E
Source Reduction is any action that reduces the amount of waste exiting a process.
Source Reduction means consuming and throwing away less.
It actually prevents the generation of waste in the first place, so it is the most preferred method of waste management and goes a long way towards protecting the environment.
Some examples are:
Purchasing durable, long-lasting goods
Seeking products and packaging that are as free of toxins as possible
Redesigning products to use fewer raw materials in production, have a longer life, or be used again after its original use.
R E U S E
Reusing items by repairing them, donating them to charity and community groups, or selling them to reduce waste.
Reusing products, when possible, is even better than recycling because the item does not need to be reprocessed before it can be used again.
R E C Y C L E
The use, reuse or reclamation of a waste, either on or off site, after it is generated.
Recycling methods include:
Using or reusing a waste as a substitute for a commercial product
Reusing a waste in order to delay the purchase of new commercial product
Removing contaminants from a waste to allow its reuse
Reclaiming useful constituents from within a waste material
Moab Solutions promotes best-practices recycling. Our 33-year-old source separated recycle center collects item by type, processes the items by type, and sells them to market. The items are cleaner and more valuable.
THE COMMUNITY RECYCLE CENTER IS OPEN
8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, and 8 am to 12 noon on Saturday.
